CAMPUS LIFE Six Things I Wish I Was Told Before Joining Campus

When you hear about university you probably are thinking of the freedom that comes with it.
But what should you actually expect?
Probably you may have received a campus list of clubs during orientation but no one actually gives you the inside scoop. Do people still even attend these programs on orientation? There are many things you want to do now that you are here; Right? I call them goals. Here is a list of goals for most young ladies who join the university.
  1. Have fun
Having fun had to top the list because we live in the YOLO time. Sometimes I feel like looking for the founder of the YOLO movement and just shoot them. It has messed so many lives. Listen, don’t get me wrong: no one said having fun is a taboo; in fact it is the best thing that could happen to anyone.
But we totally miss the point when we are always partying. Someone wise once said; “Some of y’all are not where you want to be in life yet you party every weekend. What exactly are you celebrating?” Things need to be done with moderation sister and in case you did not know let me introduce you to something called responsible fun. You could give it a try.
  1. Join clubs and societies
This is one of those “minor” goals as students take it lightly. “That’s so high school”. “Who even joins such in university?” most say, wait till you graduate and you see others joining campus and you say, “I wish someone told me.” You are lucky I’m saving you the hustle. I was also in deep slumber; I just woke up recently and oh yes I’m joining all clubs that I know are related to my interest because I know what I want in life.
The benefits you’ll get from these clubs are immense; networking opportunities; social opportunities, professional experience, personal development, skills in leadership, organization and management. Honestly, what more could you ask for?
3. Graduate with first class honors.
Who doesn’t want a good grade? But this is the problem, most of us join campus with this in mind but somewhere along the 4 year journey or for some 5/6 year journey we lose track.
And all of a sudden you start hearing people talk of, “A supplementary is not that bad,” “Marks start counting in second year”, “I don’t have to go for classes, I can just read one week to exam”, Now listen; No amount of Facebook will replace the information that you would have gotten if you went for class. GO TO CLASS. If this will turn out to be you, forget all about the first class. If you deeply desire this, work for it; go for it.

vacational trip after some achievements.
4. Be You; Do You
You will never influence the world by trying to be like it. Take time to know self and discover your purpose because if you don’t know your purpose, abuse is definitely inevitable. Be unapologetically you. Never underestimate your ability to keep the best piece of you and to change anything that does not serve you or others. The power of association is in your hands and be the source of what you hope to attract to your life.
5. Grab Opportunities
Thomas Edision once said that, “Opportunity is missed by people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Funny how this statement turns but to be very true because an opportunity won’t knock at your door and tell you it is one. Understand that time at college is short and if an opportunity comes your way, grab it because excuses will always be there but opportunity won’t. Keep this mind; after you graduate, you need a job that requires a C.V; work on your resume. This is the time.
6. Have Confidence and Put God First
Confidence  is a shortcut to success just like getting a mentor is confidence is very important in achieving goals. When you believe in yourself, the world literally conspires to make it real for you.
When all is said and done it is important to realize that there is someone out there who is in control of everything. When this journey overwhelms you at some point; go down on your knees because something  very beautiful happens to people when their world has fallen apart, a humility, a nobility, a higher intelligence emerges at just the point when our knees hit the floor.
We could talk and talk more but all this depends on your choice. If it is to be, it is up to YOU. Have a wonderful stay in campus!
